Project 'Slomega'

BIG thanks to Glenn who helped me out here by rebuilding the mono-jet :) Too many small pieces, springs and fear that I was afraid of doing it myself and messing it up.

I didn't find out till later that this was the first time Glenn has rebuilt a mono-jet. hahaha, and Dan & Kira came out to keep an eye on the car in the driveway and enjoy a small fire.

After watching Glenn rebuild this carb, I still don't think I have the balls to try it myself. Leaving it to the pros ...

Carbs rebuilt, maybe the car will run decent now. Reinstall the carb back onto the car. Had to tie-wrap the carb vacuum piece as it is no good and this will keep the choke from staying on.

The next day while I was on my way to the tire shop, I guess some of the bolts on the carbs weren't tight enough and I had a small engine fire. Part of me wanted to let the car burn, but the guys from the tire shop came out with a fire blanket to put it out. So I pulled off the carb and retighten and lock-tighted the main 2 bowel screws.

About a week before this, I bought some BRAND NEW 215/60/15's & 245/60/15's out of the Buy 'N Sell for $250. Had the 245's switched over to steelies and mounted them on the nova and will use the old 245's from the nova for Slomega. After running the 245's for a day, we noticed them rubbing on the fender lip, as well, the exhaust was rubbing and burning the inside wall of the tire. (Glad it wasn't the NEW 245's)

Shelly helped me out here by lending me some 215/70/14's that she had in her garage until we can work on the lip of the wheel well.

Since early May, I haven't done much on the car. Painted the hood and trunk flat-black in the meantime and slowly going down the side of the car as I continue to blow off more paint at the car washes. I hope to have the whole car painted flat-black soon, as well, I still have the welding lines of the quarters to hide too!

Early June, I lent 'Slomega' to my sister & Clint to drive, as I'm pretty sick of the car and I need to start saving some money up. (Well, I can't take it home just yet ...) Clint had a pair of Nova Rallys kicking around so he flipped over the tires so that I'd have matching rims on the car, altho the back 2 are Shelly's, so he's hunting for 2 more.

The car seems to be a REAL dog, I mean, you don't pull out infront of traffic with this car, it has NO pickup. After working on it with a few friends, came to the conclusion that the cam is rounded, which get me thinking of what the REAL mileage might of been. Did the speedo go over twice?, or was this the cause of the car running with a lack of oil in the motor.

Late-June, I was able to trade some nova parts to a friend for a running 350, so stay tuned for pictures of the engine built/swap or whatever I plan to do coming soon .... (Maybe I should finish the bodywork first!)
