Project 'Slomega'

The welding continues and Ian takes a moment to fix the seat belt bucket cover.

Now over to the second hole, which as you can see ... is gonna need more then a little patch. We begin to remove the carpet and other material to see just how badly things are down there.

It was WAY worse then I ever expected, and well at this point ... there is no turning back! So out comes the cardboard and time to draw up a patch piece for yet, another hole.

Just as we run out of scrap or spare metal, Glenn friend Chris brings over a truck he bought for $600 which he just wants the powertrain from. RIGHT ON!, Thank You Chris!!, I end up cutting out a few pieces including a piece big enough for the passenger side floor patch. As well, I would like to point out, that THIS IS A WIRE WHEEL!! WOO HOO!!, does this wheel ever rock !!!

I took a moment to try out the wire-wheel, and cleaned up some metal from the donor truck.

Well Kelly made some more cuts on the side of the car to get the quarter to fit, I made another little patch piece to replace the lip where the quarter will be welded too.

The front part is ready for the quarter, now Kelly just drills some extra holes in the quarter to make it easier to weld in. As well, we test fit the quarter.

A little more grinding and notching is in order to get the quarter to fit on the rocker nicely. We also had to flatten the bottom and move the bend up a bit for the body lines to match. We also trace out where the fender will fit along the back so we can cut out the rest of it, and keep the marker light piece as a stencil.

The quarter went on almost flawlessly. We then take a few sheet metal screws to hold it in place. All is well except for that lip patch I made for the back of the car isn't quite right and a little more patching will be required at the rear where the quarter is welded as per the driver side pic.
