Cracking open the top-end and it reveals much of the same as the bottom end. Copper flakes ALL over the place. Even found a piece of spring which appears to be from the rear-main seal in one of the heads.

Time to pull off the Rockers, pushrods and get those heads off.

Dad checks out the cylinder walls. Justin & I pulling out the pistons.

Flexplate removal, and a shot of the 4th Main and the One Piece Rear Main Seal ... minus the spring which keeps pressure of the rear seal.

A picture of the rotating assembly, old bearings, main caps, crank.

Because of all the flakes and metal in the motor, it is decided that the block needs to be tank'd and cleaned. Justin is seen here removing the frost plugs.

As Dad & Justin shoot the shit, I found something interesting in the Oil Pump Pickup. A piece of metal, looks like a stretched out spring, (Rear Main Seal) and it's lodged in the pickup.

Justin is measuring up the connecting rods, to make sure there are round, and not rounded.

Cam bearing removal, and they don't look too bad.

Can't work on an empty stomach. Supper today is ordered from TONYS PIZZA!

All that's left is the crank. We decided to go with a new crank, as the old one has some marks on it. Justin ordered a Scat replacement crank for the engine.

We pull out the new crank and a new set of bearings and temporarly install the crank.

#1, and #8 pistons are installed, to measure up and see what kind of clearances we have on the deck.

After measuring, and remeasuring and triple checking ... we have determined that the block isn't even on both sides.

We loaded up the heads and block, which Justin will look after having it machined and will also clean up the heads.

Justin was nice enough to take the box of pistons too, which he took the time to clean up.

The block is back, freshly machined and all straighten out.

At this point of the game, I was unsure what to do. Do I want to simply rebuild the motor, do I want to make some upgrades to the motor ?? Justin had some ideas, altho I wasn't on the same page as him. I needed some time to think it over and save up some money.
