Test & Tune @ Gimli Dragway

( May 30, 2009 )

Took the Omega out on a Saturday to Gimli for 'Test & Tune'. I want to baseline the Omega and see how she'll run.

Running a stock 305, TH350 trans with a stock 8.5 rear end - 2.56 Open. I'm not expecting much from the 305, figure the car will probably run in the 17s. The oil pressure in the 305 is not the greatest, usually around the 35psi so it'll be interesting to see how that may impact the motor.

Let's see what this 305 can do ...

Start off the morning by meeting up with some friends. My brother-in-law is joining us with his Thunderbird, which is running a 5.0L HO.

Car troubles start early, as Clint is needing to stop by Canadian Tire to replace his alternator.

We arrive at the track, Mom & Glenn are munching down on a breakfast sandwich while Clint and I get our cars ready.

Picture of us in the Pits, and in line for 'Tech' inspection.

My sister, neighbor and friends join us at the track for an outing.

Clint & I are lined up in the Staging Area, waiting our turn!

Still waiting, clint pops his hood to let his car cool down.

The Omega is truely living up to it's name ... 'SLOMega'. Car is running pretty constant low 17s, while Clint has his bird up in the mid-14s.

Been playing around with the shift points, shifting it low to running it high. Doesn't matter what RPM the car is running, the Oil psi remains at 35 max.

On the right, is my Dad standing next to the Omega and he has signed up for the 'Gamblers' race.

The Omega was originally dialed in at 17.20. Dad ran a 17.19 the first round (which he had a bye in) and afterward re-dialed the car at 17.18

In the second round, Dad is knocked out.

Looks like Dad had fun, regardless of the outcome.

Last run of the day, Clint takes the Omega down the strip to see what he can do with it.

Clint pulled the best ET of the day at 16.89. ... the second 16 second run of the day.

There we have it ... Slomega is a high-16/17 second car.
